Well, as promised, thought I would just share some more quilts from that Magic Bag I have.
You know, the hardest part of writing this blog is coming up with an interesting title for each post. A little like coming up with interesting names for quilts I guess. Well, as promised, thought I would just share some more quilts from that Magic Bag I have. This beautiful Churn Dash quilt is again made from Moda fabrics, O Cherry O, I think, but not sure. The quilting pattern is a very large feathered clam which looks great. I will wait to see though if the customer wants some more quilting on this one though. To me there is a lot of unquilted area. Above is another bright and cheerful quilt in lime green and white. It looks so fresh. The quilting pattern used is called Too Much Bubbly - love it.
There is just one more quilt in the bag, but

Have been working very hard this week. Wanted to get the bag of quilts finished that my friend had left for me. I am sure it was a magic bag. Every time I thought I only had two quilts left, I would find extra quilts in the bag. But each and every one was gorgeous. Isn't this a lovely fresh looking quilt. The pattern is Goodnight Irene and the fabric is Pink Lemonade Bali prints. The colours aren't ones I would choose but I absolutely love the finished product. I'm tempted to go out and buy some pretty pink fabrics - maybe a quilt for my granddaughter. I have made the same pattern. Thought I would share it just to show how different the quilts look in different colours. We do sometimes make the same quilts but we tend to choose very different colours in our fabrics. Well, will share the rest of the quilts from the "magic bag" of quilts another day. Happy quilting everyone. OK, the last post sort of worked, so have refined a little and will try again before I go to do some more of these beautiful quilts. The one below is Floral Bouquet made from Fig Tree fabrics Breakfast at Tiffany range for Moda. I have some of this fabric in my stash, just need some time to make it up. The inspiration for how to make it might help too!!! Both the customer and I have made this quilt pattern a couple of times. It comes from a book called Jelly Roll Quilts by Pam & Nikki Lintott. I will have to try and find the photos of the other quilts and put them up on the blog.
Well, I have procrastinated long enough. Back to work on a Goodnight Irene quilt top. So, trying to get this blog post to appear on my Quilting on the Coast Facebook page, so while doing that, I will share the other completed customer quilts I have just finished and delivered. The quilt top is Pathways and Crossroads made in Fig Tree's Buttercup range for Moda, and the quilting pattern is called Tracery. I think it looks lovely on the quilt. The one below is Kiss Me made from Bonnie & Camille's Vintage Modern. The quilting pattern is called Stick Buns. Don't you just love the names of these patterns. I will save the other finished one for later. Need to see if this loads up properly, otherwise I will have nothing to write about.
Thought I would be quilting my own quilts for quite some time, but I have a quilting friend who is a prolific producer of quilt tops. Lucky for me she is also a very busy working woman, and she delivered a bag of quilt tops for me to quilt. Only one was required in a hurry, so that was the first one on the frame. The second one out of the "bag" was a very large Alphabet Quilt. Loved the pattern of Bubbles on this one. A desperate call from another friend found me doing a rush job, so that a birthday present could be ready on time. Both the customer and I were very pleased with the final finish on the quilt. I am sure the recipient will be very pleased with it. And to finish off the week, I had another quilt to finish. This was a special commission quilt. A very good friend had given me a pack of Chantilly charm squares by Moda and had asked me to make her a lap quilt. Must admit I was very pleased with how this quilt turned out. It's a very simple Disappearing Nine Patch pattern, but the fabrics make it look really fresh. Yet another happy customer for the end of the week. Absolutely love the feeling of satisfaction that comes with finishing the quilt tops. Even better though is the delight on the customer's faces when they pick up their finished quilts. Fabulous!!!
Well, Ruby arrived and was set up by the wonderful people at The Finishing Touch - Kaye and Bruce Brown. And of course, rather than just getting the "lessons" underway, I wanted to get straight into doing a quilt. But of course, what else would you do!!! You can see from the photo above that already the sewing space is becoming cluttered. Oh well, you can't be creative and tidy too!!! The fabrics for this quilt were purchased while we were on our travels in 2012 from a little shop in Tumby Bay, South Australia called Patches at the Bay. When we got home, I saw this pattern in Australian Patchwork and Quilting magazine (sorry don't remember which one and can't even remember the name of the pattern) and just altered the size of borders to get a full queen size quilt. The quilting pattern is called Modern Maze 2. I was really thrilled with the finished quilt. More quilts have been completed since then, and I will share them with you shortly.
Well, I having finally decided to do something about all my spare time and have ordered Ruby II - a Gammill Statler machine and she is going to be delivered shortly. Panic stations, because my sewing area looks a mess, so a little revamping is required. While that sounds very non threatening, after two days of moving everything to the other side of the garage (where the car is usually parked) I decided to do a little painting. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I could have saved myself considerable stress and numerous paint covered tops. But having said that, I am very pleased with the end result. Might add, the area will never be this clean and tidy again. I had the old carpet and lino pieces removed and now have a wonderful clean looking laminate floor. My wonderful partner spent nearly two days putting all the cupboards back into position. Just as well I have him, I would never have been able to do it myself. My big job was to "supervise" and then put all the fabrics back into the cupboards. Oh what a job!!! Love the photos on the wall. Even better is the fact that two of them I took myself and had them mounted on canvas.
Well, just a few more days and Ruby will be here. Can't wait!!! |
